The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate recorded a 15.4% increase in overall crime in 2025 compared with 2024, according to its annual report released on Monday (December 22, 2025). Total cases rose from 28,626 in 2024 to 33,040 in 2025, an increase of 4,414 cases.

The rise was driven mainly by an increase in bodily and other offences, which went up from 22,357 cases in 2024 to 27,342 in 2025. Kidnapping cases also increased from 463 to 579 during the same period. In contrast, several property-related offences, including robbery, house burglary and automobile theft recorded a decline.

Total accidents increased, fatalities dip marginally

Road safety data shows a mixed picture in 2025. Total road accident cases increased from 3,207 in 2024 to 3,488 in 2025, a rise of about 8.8%. Fatal accidents dipped marginally from 624 to 621, while the number of deaths increased slightly from 653 to 659. Injuries rose from 3,003 to 3,219.

Accidents on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) increased sharply, with total cases rising from 52 in 2024 to 76 in 2025. Fatal accidents on the ORR went up from 19 to 26, indicating higher risk on high-speed corridors despite sustained enforcement and awareness measures.

Cyber crimes dip by 19%

Cyber crime cases declined in 2025 compared with the previous year. A total of 4,618 cyber crime cases were reported in 2024, which came down to 3,734 cases in 2025, reflecting a reduction of about 19%.

Types of cyber crimes

Despite the volume of complaints, recovery outcomes improved, with ₹40.10 crore refunded or returned to victims of cyber fraud during the year. Investment fraud, part-time job scams, unauthorised transactions, APK-based frauds and digital arrest scams continued to account for a large share of cases. Police said cyber awareness programmes were expanded, reaching more than one lakh people across the commissionerate.

Crimes against women

Overall crime against women increased by 4% in 2025 compared with 2024. However, a decline was recorded in several serious offence categories. Dowry murders, abetment to suicide and rape cases declined during the year.

Reported rape cases came down from 384 in 2024 to 330 in 2025. Dowry deaths reduced from 18 to 12, while cases of abetment to suicide also saw a drop. Domestic violence cases fell sharply from 1,222 to 782.

At the same time, molestation and POCSO cases increased from 953 in 2024 to 1,224 in 2025, indicating continuing challenges in offences involving children and sexual harassment.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner, G. Sudheer Babu, said the year’s policing strategy was anchored in the VQT principle of visible presence, quick response and technology-led initiatives. “Serving a vast area of 5,122 sq. km. and a population of 64 lakh citizens, we have demonstrated that effective, humane policing can transcend scale and complexity,” he said.

The Commissioner said that operational efficiency was reflected in the registration of 33,040 cases and disposal of 25,643 cases, a disposal rate of 78%. “The execution of 4,121 non-bailable warrants (NBW) to achieve Zero-NBW status underscores strong legal follow-through. Further, 144 convictions in contested cases, including 31 life sentences, send a clear deterrent message and reinforce public confidence,” he said.

Mr. Sudheer Babu added that enforcement was complemented by proactive prevention, resulting in a nearly 15% reduction in property crimes through visible policing initiatives such as bicycle patrols and the City Armed Reserve (CAR) force. He also pointed to Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) seizures exceeding ₹20.01 crore and the dismantling of interstate child trafficking and illegal organ trade networks, leading to the rescue of 16 infants.
