Three persons were arrested by Tiruvannamalai Taluk police on Vengaikaal – Kottapalayam Main Road at Vengaikaal village near the Collectorate office in Tiruvannamalai town for possession of 54 grams of Methylphenidate in powder form.
Police said that the arrested persons were identified as T. Satish Karthi, 25, a B.Tech graduate, M. Balaji, 24, a cab driver, and R. Gowtham, 25, unemployed. Except Gowtham, a native of Bengaluru, the other two persons are from Vengaikaal village in Tiruvannamalai town.
Initial inquiry revealed that based on a tip-off, the Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar, has formed special teams to conduct surprise vehicle checks on Vengaikaal – Kottapalayam Main Road.
Police said it was around 11 a.m when a police team stopped the trio in a sedan on the stretch.
Police searched them and found a powder form of the psychotropic drug in two packets from Balaji. The gang told police that they brought those from drug peddlers in Bengaluru and had returned to the temple town to sell them in retail.
Police seized the drug and car. A case was registered. The trio were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
