A 63-year-old man suspected in a double homicide on Herron Island from Thursday was arrested in a Kent motel, according to Pierce County deputies. He was taken to a hospital with what deputies said is a self-inflicted injury.
Deputies were dispatched at about 4 p.m. to a residence in the 700 block of East Herron Boulevard. They had been asked to conduct “a welfare check on a man and woman who had not been seen and not shown up for work,” according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carly Cappetto.
Deputies found a woman, 64, and a man, 39, dead inside the home. Both appeared to have knife wounds, Cappetto said.
“We believe the victims have been deceased over the last week,” Cappetto said in video accompanying the statement.
Deputies later found the 63-year-old man at a Kent-area motel, Cappetto said in an update on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page. He did not comply with orders, so a SWAT team was called out.
The man was found with a self-inflicted wound after SWAT officers entered his room. He is in custody at a local hospital in serious condition, she said.
The homicides were not random, according to the Sheriff’s Office in response to a commenter on the Facebook post.
