As part of its mission to make Kozhikode a completely disabled-friendly district, the district administration will launch a Barrier-Free Mega Building Audit in the last week of December.

The initiative is a component of the ‘Sahamithra’ project, which coordinates multiple departments to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities. The administration is implementing the project in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Chevayur, Calicut University’s NSS wing, and the ‘Campuses of Kozhikode’ units, according to a press release.

Around 10,000 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from 70 colleges will assist with the auditing activities, which is a major step towards building inclusive infrastructure. During the initial phase, the volunteers will access nearly 7,000 public buildings under various local self-government institutions.

Officials released the official poster of the project at a meeting of NSS programme officers held at Malabar Christian College here on Thursday (December 18). Calicut University NSS programme co-ordinator V. Vijayakumar and district co-ordinator Faseel Ahmed addressed the gathering.
