‘I want justice’: Unnao rape case survivor calls on LoP Rahul Gandhi; also wants to meet President Murmu, PM Modi and HM Shah | India News

NEW DELHI: The Unnao rape case survivor on Wednesday met leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, a day after the Delhi high court suspended the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the convict in the case.Also Read | ‘Survivor treated like criminals’: Rahul Gandhi on ‘manhandling’ of Unnao rape victim; slams bail to ex-BJP MLA Kuldeep SengarShe told the media she hoped to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah as well.“We just want to meet him (Gandhi) and tell him what we are going through. I also want to meet the Prime Minister and Amit Shah. Our President is a woman. I want to meet all of them and apprise them of the injustice done to me,” the survivor told reporters as she arrived at the residence of Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi’s mother, where he stays.The woman, who was a minor when Sengar committed the crime in June 2017, met Gandhi hours after the Congress leader, in a post on X, condemned the manhandling of the survivor by security forces at Delhi’s India Gate, where she was protesting the grant of bail to Sengar.Also Read | ‘His bail like kaal for us’: Unnao rape case survivor to move SC against suspension of Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s jail term; seeks justice“Is such treatment of a gang rape survivor appropriate? The fact that her perpetrator (former BJP MLA Sengar) has been granted bail is extremely disappointing and shameful—especially when the survivor is being repeatedly harassed and is living under the shadow of fear,” Gandhi wrote.“Bail for rapists and treating survivors like criminals—what kind of justice is this? We are not just becoming a dead economy—with such inhuman incidents, we are also turning into a dead society. All the daughters of the country are now afraid that they will be raped and the criminals will get away with it. They have confined us to our homes by directing him to stay five kilometres away from us. I have faith in the Supreme Court that it will give us justice,” she said.One of the conditions imposed by the high court on Sengar is that he cannot enter a five-kilometre radius of the survivor’s home.
