The government has sanctioned ₹50 crore for the repair of canals in Nellore, says MA&UD Minister P. Narayana.

Andhra Pradesh will soon become a garbage-free state with the establishment of eight Waste-to-Energy Recycling Plants. Apart from the existing two plants in Visakhapatnam and Guntur, the government has announced four plants at Nellore, Kakinada, Kadapa and Kurnool. Two more plants are coming up at Vijayawada and Tirupati, MA&UD Minister Ponguru Narayana said.
On the sidelines of a review meeting at Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Wednesday, he said, “Though the YSRCP government had left over 85 lakh tonnes of garbage, the coalition government had cleared it two weeks ahead of the deadline of October 2. The state will be garbage-free once the remaining 30 lakh tonnes are removed from the dump yard grounds.”
“The State produces nearly 7,500 tonnes of garbage a day. With the help of the waste-to-energy plants, it will be converted into electricity. Companies like Jindal Urban Infrastructure Limited and Antony Lara Renewable Energy Private Limited will be investing ₹350 to ₹400 crore to set up each plant,” he said.
Speaking about the measures to avoid the threat of floods in Nellore, he said, “The government has sanctioned ₹50 crore for the repair of canals. As per the new plan of the NMC, only 20% of the people who are living by encroaching on the canals will lose their houses.”
Referring to the anti-encroachment drive, the Minister said, “Steps will be taken to ensure that the poor people are given alternate options like TIDCO houses. Some people are spreading falsehood over the issue for political gains.”
The Minister presented Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) cheques of ₹22.42 lakh to 29 beneficiaries.
