NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders shattered records at the IPL players’ auction on Tuesday, shelling out a staggering Rs 25.20 crore to secure Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.The bid saw Green eclipse compatriot Mitchell Starc’s previous mark of Rs 24.75 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history. The aggressive bidding came after KKR and Chennai Super Kings engaged in a fierce duel for the all-rounder, with the Kolkata franchise eventually prevailing.

Despite the eye-catching figure, Green will earn ?18 crore (USD 1.9 million) for the season, in line with the auction rules for overseas players. The remaining amount will be directed towards the BCCI’s player development programme. In contrast, Matheesha Pathirana will receive his full amount as it falls within the prescribed salary cap.Green, who has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has featured in 29 IPL matches so far, scoring 707 runs and picking up 16 wickets.Following his big-money move, Green shared a video message for KKR fans, which was posted by the franchise.“Hey KKR fans, it’s Cam Green here. I’m so excited to be part of Kolkata for this year’s IPL, to get down to the Eden Gardens, get used to the atmosphere and hope it’s a great year for us. So, see you soon. Ami KKR,” Green said.
