There was drama for Australia ahead of the first ODI in Brisbane, with Perry and Garth unavailable having both suffered quad strains in Saturday’s series-decider of the T20 leg at the Adelaide Oval.
“Their availability for the Test match will be further assessed at the end of the ODI series pending on how they progress with rehab,” a Cricket Australia statement said on Perry and Garth.
Georgia Voll, who made 88 in Australia’s only victory of the three-match T20I series, had appeared set to miss selection for the opening ODI but replaced Perry at No.3 in the line-up.
Legspinner Alana King and veteran allrounder Tahlia McGrath were also named having been overlooked for the T20I series.
Captain Alyssa Healy returned to the top of the order as she started her farewell tour that will culminate in the Test match at the WACA. Healy will not take the gloves with Beth Mooney taking the role as full-time wicketkeeper.
Sophie Molineux, who had a tough captaincy initiation with a 2-1 defeat in the T20Is, will be Australia’s vice-captain for the series.
