Azerbaijan’s Aliyev Plans a Large-Scale Prisoner Amnesty, Azertac Reports

BAKU, Dec ‌15 (Reuters) – ​President ‌Ilham Aliyev of ​Azerbaijan has ‍proposed what could ​be ​the ⁠biggest prisoner amnesty in his country’s history ‌to mark the “year of ​the ‌constitution and ‍sovereignty,” the ⁠state Azertac news agency reported on Monday.

It said ​the amnesty could affect around 20,000 people. Some would be released from prison, while others would have ​their sentences reduced, Azertac said.
