Close on the heels of the JD(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda indicating that the alliance of the JD(S) with the BJP would not apply for the forthcoming elections to local bodies, the BJP leaders of Mandya have told the party State leadership that they would go it alone in the local body polls in the district which is represented in Lok Sabha by alliance candidate and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
Briefing presspersons after a meeting of the BJP district core committee meeting that had been called by the party State leadership in Bengaluru to discuss the party’s preparations for the local body polls, BJP leader Chidananda said the district BJP leaders had unanimously resolved to fight the local body polls independently.
He even said that the party district unit would organise a district tour of prominent leaders to strengthen the party unit ahead of the polls.
BJP leader and former Minister Narayana Gowda expressed concern that the JD(S) had decided to go it alone thought the BJP had campaigned hard for Mr. Kumaraswamy during the Lok Sabha polls.
In a diplomatic stand, former MP Sumalatha said the district unit would abide by whatever decision is taken by the party State and Central leadership.
