The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday (April 30, 2026) witnessed heated exchanges between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition benches over the women’s reservation amendment Bill, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleging that the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress attempted to obstruct the political rights of women and diverted attention from the core objective by raising the issue of religious reservation.
The SP accused the BJP of misleading the people on the issue of women’s reservation. After a discussion during the one-day special session on women’s empowerment, a condemnation motion against the parties opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Bill was passed by voice vote.
