Several companies abroad are looking at Coimbatore to set up their global capability centres (GCC), according to ANSR Global, a consulting firm that facilitates setting up of GCCs.

According to ANSR’s latest city-specific data, 2025 marked a transition for Coimbatore from the engineering and textile industries to GCCs. Coimbatore has more than 60 GCCs and has the potential to be a leader among emerging cities in attracting GCCs. It has almost 2.3 lakh experienced technology professionals and almost 60,000 candidates graduate from its colleges annually.

“What’s drawing GCC interest to Coimbatore in 2025 is not just cost — it’s predictability and scalability. Enterprises are increasingly leveraging the city for analytics and data engineering roles; AI-adjacent and support functions; and engineering services linked to tier-1 innovation hubs,” it said.

“Coimbatore is no longer just a feeder city — it’s becoming a GCC execution hub in its own right, especially for talent-led scale and AI-adjacent work,” the ANSR report said.

Smitha Hemmigae, Managing Director at ANSR, said that in the last five years, Coimbatore saw an annual growth rate of 20 % to 22 % in the GCC segment. A lot of these are in E R& D and manufacturing. Coimbatore offers talent pool, relatively low cost infrastructure, and the IT eco system. It has close to a dozen incubators that nurture startups. The city has potential for all GCCs that want to expand to emerging cities. With the Tamil Nadu government providing incentives for GCCs, Coimbatore has huge potential, she told The Hindu on Wednesday.
