Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren’s grandson passed away in Manali on Tuesday (February 24, 2026), the BJP leader said on Wednesday.
Mr. Soren said that his grandson, Veer Soren, 19, died after suddenly falling ill. In a post written in Hindi on X, the leader said that Veer was taken to a hospital but could not be saved.
“I am informing with a heavy heart that my dead grandson Veer Soren has died on February 24, 2026. He fell ill in Himachal Pradesh and was rushed to a hospital, but fate had something else in store for us. Our entire family is shattered by Veer’s death,” he posted. Mr. Soren called the death “untimely”.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled Veer’s death. “We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Veer Soren, the grandson of Champai Soren, in Kulu. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace at the feet of Marang Buru, and may the grieving family be granted strength to bear this unbearable sorrow. In this hour of profound grief, we stand with them,” the Chief Minister posted on X.
Champai Soren became the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand and was in office for five months when Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren was arrested for alleged money laundering.
After Hemant Soren was released from jail, Champai Soren left the JMM citing “humiliation” and joined the BJP. He is the sitting MLA from Seraikella Assembly constituency.
