G. Kumar Naik, Raichur Lok Sabha MP, reviewed the progress of development works under the Central Fund at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Raichur on February 21.

He chaired the meeting to ensure effective implementation of Union, State, and local government schemes.

Issues related to agriculture, rural infrastructure development, railway projects, telecommunication, construction of schools, hostels, multi-village drinking water schemes, the Jal Jeevan Mission, and government benefits through bankers, and others were discussed in depth.

Agriculture

Agriculture Department officers explained with data that as many as 12,477 farmers in Kharif and 6,909 farmers in Rabi had registered for crop insurance under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and distribution of compensation to farmers by insurance companies is in progress.

They also added that the Union government has released ₹736.14 crore to 2,34,988 farmers under PM Kisan Yojana in the district.

The MP stressed implementing One District One Product (ODOP) to boost agriculture manufacturing and enhance and export local incomes. Responding to Mr. Naik, officials stated that the district has chosen to establish a dry red chilli market under OPOD.

Railway

When discussing the issue of two key railway projects, Munirabad-Mahabubnagar and Gadag-Wadi, the MP said that both lines are crossing the district, connecting neighbouring States directly, and making it easier to go to Chennai and Bengaluru from different parts. “If these lines are completed, agricultural products and other commercial products can be transported to various places comfortably with affordable freights,” he added.

Replying to the MP, railway officials explained that the lands acquired in Sindhanur, Raichur, Manvi, and Sirwar taluks have already been handed over to the department for the Munirabad-Mahabubnagar project, while the land acquisition process for the establishment of industrial areas and solar energy at Kurubaradoddi, Chandrabanda, and Singanodi villages for the Gadag-Wadi project is under way.

Minister N.S. Boseraju suggested that officials take action to provide timely compensation to farmers for acquiring their lands.

Banks

The MP expressed displeasure towards bankers asking farmers for CIBIL scores to sanction loans to beneficiaries selected under various government schemes. “Poor and middle-class people are suffering due to this practice,” he noted. Bankers should be directed to sanction the loan by confirming the beneficiaries, he suggested to the lead bank officers.

Drinking water

Highlighting the drinking water crises during the summer, Mr. Naik said that multi-village drinking water projects should be implemented in rural hamlets and urban local areas of Manvi, Maski, Kavithal, Turvihal, Balaganur, Sirwar, and Hatti under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) by using grants from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Urban Development Department (UDD).

BSNL network

He also directed the officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to extend the network to the rural areas, particularly post offices, enabling them to take Central schemes to people.

MLAs Basanagowda Daddal and Karemma G. Naik, Deputy Commissioner Nitish K., Raichur Zilla Panchayat CEO Iswar Kumar Kandoo, Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri, officers of various departments, and others were present.
