BRSLP deputy leader and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao on Wednesday challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to enter the electoral fray from Siddipet, instead of asking any other candidate to contest from the seat.

Speaking informally with reporters in the Assembly, Mr. Rao said the Chief Minister should refrain from fielding any Congress candidate in the constituency and instead contest directly against him.

His remarks came in response to Mr. Reddy’s recent statement offering a ministerial berth to any Congress leader who manages to secure a victory from Siddipet.

Reiterating his belief that the BRS would return to power in the next general elections under the leadership of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr. Harish Rao said: Even if Revanth Reddy performs penance, he will not become Chief Minister again.

He accused the Congress government of betraying all sections of society, particularly BCs, SCs, STs and minorities, by failing to implement its election guarantees. Citing government responses given in the Assembly, he claimed that less than 2% of the funds sanctioned for various community welfare corporations had been spent, terming it evidence of neglect towards marginalised groups.

Mr. Rao welcomed the proposals for delimitation and women’s reservation, expressing confidence that an increase in Assembly seats would work to the BRS’s advantage. However, he cautioned that population-based delimitation could adversely impact Southern States that have effectively implemented population control norms.
