The Kerala High Court has asked Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) whether it had been informed by Central intelligence agencies about the arrival of Bengaluru resident Suraj Lama, who was reported missing after being deported from Kuwait since October 10.
CIAL ought to submit details of the follow-up action on Thursday (December 18), the court said, while considering a habeas corpus plea filed by the missing person’s son. The Centre’s counsel had submitted that there was a protocol to be followed for such deported persons.
The court had earlier this month sought the certified translation of the deportation documents, if they were in any foreign language. A native of Alipore in West Bengal, Mr. Lama ran a hotel business in Kuwait, while his wife and son resided in Bengaluru. In Kuwait, he was involved in a spurious liquor incident in August after which the police there admitted him to a hospital.
After treatment, he was deported to Kochi with 12 others, and they landed at the airport here on December 5.
