Zaqout was responsible for recruiting and transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Qassam Brigades to support its operations against Israel.
Abdel Hay Zaqout, a member of thefinance department of Hamas’s military wing, the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, was killed two weeks ago in the strike on the vehicle in which senior Hamas leader Ra’ad Sa’ad was killed, IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced on X/Twitter on Wednesday morning.
Zaqout, who was killed as part of a joint IDF and Shin Bet operation, was a resident of Gaza City and was responsible for recruiting and transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Qassam Brigades to support its operations against Israel, Adraee noted.
“The IDF and the Shin Bet will continue their efforts to disrupt the financing of terrorism and will act against all those involved in terrorism or in providing assistance to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel,” he added.
Senior Hamas commander Ra’ad Sa’ad
Two weeks ago, the IDF had announced the killing of senior Hamas commander Ra’ad Sa’ad, one of the most senior terrorists within the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, in a targeted strike.
The military said Sa’ad had recently been involved in attempts to restore and produce weapons for Hamas.
Sources within the Military Intelligence Directorate said the IDF strike on Sa’ad came in response to an attack on IDF troops in the Gaza Strip using an improvised explosive device.
Two soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
