Ireland is targeting 5GW of offshore renewable energy capacity by 2030, 20GW by 2040, and 37GW by 2050.
Enterprise Ireland, the Government agency supporting Ireland’s home-grown businesses, has launched a new centre called ‘Propel Ireland’ to develop the country’s offshore wind supply chain.
The centre was promised under Ireland’s offshore wind industrial strategy, launched in 2024, which also included plans to create 5,000 jobs in offshore wind and related industries, and attempt to establish an offshore wind ‘centre of excellence’.
The initiative will be supported by Government departments, industry and the country’s research community to ensure alignment with national policy and industrial needs. Enterprise Ireland has said that it will begin engaging with industry partners to boost participation in the centre.

Together with the centre’s participants, Enterprise Ireland hopes to address technical and commercial challenges, support the development of an Irish supply chain for domestic projects and global exports, and accelerate the commercial deployment of later-stage technologies.
“Offshore wind will play a central role in delivering Ireland’s climate and energy ambitions. Initiatives such as Propel Ireland are important in supporting innovation, building capability and ensuring we maximise the economic benefits of the transition to renewable energy,” said Minister at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment Timmy Dooley, TD.
Jenny Melia, the CEO of Enterprise Ireland added: “Offshore wind presents a significant opportunity for Ireland to build a new, globally competitive sector.
“Propel Ireland will support Irish companies to collaborate, innovate and scale, enabling them to compete internationally while contributing to the development of Ireland’s offshore wind capability.”
