Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh met Yukio Kani, Global CEO and Chair of Japan-based renewable energy major, JERA, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and invited the company to explore clean energy investments in the State.

During the meeting, Mr. Lokesh proposed the establishment of green ammonia production facilities in Andhra Pradesh, leveraging the port infrastructure at Moolapeta, Krishnapatnam and Kakinada.

He highlighted the State’s strategic location and strong port-led development model, which could support exports of low-carbon ammonia to Japan and other Asian markets.

Mr. Lokesh also suggested solar–wind hybrid renewable energy projects in Rayalaseema to provide reliable clean power to industrial consumers, with scope for future ammonia-based applications. He noted that industrial hubs such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Krishnapatnam enable the integration of renewable energy, LNG infrastructure, low-carbon ammonia facilities, and manufacturing units.

Further, he urged JERA to partner with AP-Genco and NTPC to evaluate pilot projects for ammonia co-firing at thermal power plants to reduce emissions, while ensuring grid stability.

Responding, Mr. Yukio Kani said JERA was developing green hydrogen and green ammonia value chains in India to support Japan’s clean energy transition, and assured that the company would examine Andhra Pradesh’s proposals.
