A 22-year-old man was arrested in Goshamahal on Monday for selling Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) illegally without a valid licence, following a raid conducted by the Goshamahal police.

The arrested accused was identified as Suryavamshi Adarsh, a resident of Jummerath Bazaar. Acting on a tip-off, officials carried out a search at a residence in Jummerath Bazaar on Monday morning. During the raid, the police recovered a large quantity of IMFL and beer bottles stored on the premises.

The seized liquor included whisky, brandy and beer of various brands, amounting to a total of 18.59 litres. Police said the accused admitted that he, along with his mother Kavitha Bai and his brother Yashpal Singh alias Pappu, who runs a pan shop in Jummerath Bazaar, was procuring liquor in bulk from different wine shops and selling it to customers at higher prices without authorisation in order to make profits.

Further investigation revealed that Suryavamshi Adarsh is a repeat offender and was previously booked in multiple cases under provisions of the Telangana State Excise Act at Goshamahal police station.

The accused was produced before the Nampally court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the other accused named in the case.
