Nurses play a crucial role in saving patients’ lives, and alongside doctors, they work tirelessly day in and day out trying to help patients in their recovery, said Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath.

The MP was speaking at a programme held on Tuesday to mark International Nurses Day at New Government General Hospital (GGH) in the city. After paying floral tributes to the statue of Florence Nightingale, who brought dignity and honour to the nursing profession, Mr. Sivanath said nurses played a key role in achieving over 80% patient satisfaction in the medical services provided by GGH.

He said that issues related to the hospital, nursing college, and hostel facilities had been brought to the government’s attention and would soon be resolved.

Meanwhile, Vijayawada MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao said Florence Nightingale’s services were unforgettable and that the path of service she showed continues to inspire nursing profession even today.

NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha noted that GGH showed high outpatient attendance, which reflected the quality of services being provided. He said efforts were under way to achieve over 95% satisfaction levels in feedback and stressed that this target could be reached only through the collective efforts of officials and staff from all departments.

As part of the International Nurses Day celebrations, 35 individuals were honoured by the chief guests for their outstanding services. Officials explained the contributions made by them in the discharge of their duties.

Hospital Superintendent A. Yedukondala Rao and others took part in the programme.
