Nat Sciver-Brunt has returned home from England’s training camp in South Africa due to family reasons.

Sciver-Brunt, the England Women’s captain, is not expected to rejoin the squad in Pretoria, where she was one of 30 players preparing for the upcoming international season.

The rest of the group will remain in South Africa until the end of this month, playing a series of five intra-squad matches as players press for selection ahead of the home T20 World Cup in June and July. The trip was originally planned for the UAE before being moved due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

Sciver-Brunt was in excellent form in the first trial match, striking a 24-ball 41 to lead Team Brittin to victory by nine wickets against the other half of the squad, known for the duration of the tour as Team Heyhoe Flint.

Maia Bouchier scored 47 off 40 after fellow opener Sophia Dunkley was run out for 12 by Dani Gibson, one of the biggest winners at last week’s Hundred auctions where she was picked up by Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000.

Team Brittin were chasing a target of 110 in 20 overs after Issy Wong took three wickets for 18. Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith and seamer Lauren Bell took two wickets each. Team Brittin reached their target with eight overs to spare.

England women will host New Zealand for two white-ball series in May, followed by three T20Is against India leading into the World Cup.
