As the countdown begins for municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has released the list of 37 candidates to contest in Mumbai.

The list released by State president NCP Sunil Tatkare also reflects the inclusivity as it has candidates such as Sudhir Mallick, Soniya Chhajed, and Bhaskar Rajan Dadar. Other prominent names such as Manoj Dubey, Rizal Chitr Hilsoria, Babban Ramachandra Mande, and Ashok Nand Patade are also included in the list.

The list has candidates representing diverse castes and communities, including, OBC, Muslim, Christian, and others. The development comes after the internal meetings as well as Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the seat-sharing strategy. Earlier, Sana Malik, MLA and daughter of Mumbai party president Nawab Malik, had also informed that the list of 100 candidates will be announced. This is the first list consisting 37 candidates and includes three members from Nawab Malik’s family members. Mr. Nawab’s brother Kaptan Malik, his daughter-in-law Bushra Malik, and sister Saeeda Khan will be contesting in the polls.

Nawab Malik has been controversial as BJP denied alliance talks with him and said that they would proceed only if some other person is appointed for the seat-sharing discussions. By releasing the first list, NCP announced to contest solo and independently from its Mahayuti alliance at the State level.

The elections for 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, are scheduled on January 15, the results will be announced on January 16.
