Myanmar’s rebels are not satisfied with the Indian position regarding the country’s election that began on December 28, said representatives of multiple rebel groups from Karen and Arakan (Rakhine) States here on Monday (December 29, 2025).
Speaking at an event at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), representatives of Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Anti-Sham Election Campaign Committee and All Arakan Students’ and Youths’ Congress of Burma (AASYC) expressed hope that the U.K. and the EU would not recognise the outcome of the poll by the junta and accused the Chinese government of encouraging the military regime.
“We have been engaging and talking with the international community. We have received a positive response from the U.K. and the EU that they will not recognise the election. We are waiting for the Indian government to clarify their position, and overall, we are not satisfied with the Indian position,” said Ko Ting Oo, the leader of the Anti-Sham Election Campaign Committee.
India has been calling for an inclusive election in Myanmar, but the Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs) and the exiled National Unity Government (NUG) have been calling upon India to exert more pressure on the junta to make the election truly inclusive.
The rebel representatives said that China will most likely recognise the outcome of the election and they also accused China of interfering in the internal affairs of Myanmar.
They called upon India to provide them platforms to hold talks among the leading stakeholders in Myanmar so that the consultative process can be advanced in the backdrop of the three-phased polling that will also take place on January 11 and 25, 2026.
