Chennai Ward 62 councillor R. Jagadeesan said that the EmpowHer gym for women in his area had not been opened for public use for several months even after the completion of the building, at the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Council meeting on Friday.
When GCC Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran sought further details regarding the delay, Standing Committee (Works) Chairman N. Chitrarasu said the ward councillor had been making the request for the past three years, but it had not been acted upon.
Responding to this, the Corporation Commissioner said that the the concerned assistant engineer would be suspended as there had been a prolonged delay and the gym would be opened on Friday.
