The owner of a two-wheeler parked at the Wadackanchery railway station was arrested and the vehicle seized after a petrol leak was detected during safety monitoring of the station’s parking area on Tuesday, railway authorities said.

According to a railway press release, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the suspected leak. On inspection, petrol was found leaking from the vehicle. RPF staff promptly turned off the fuel knob and stopped the leakage, preventing a possible accident.

The RPF has registered a case under Section 154 against the vehicle owner. The two-wheeler was seized and the owner arrested in accordance with rules, the release said.

A detailed fire safety audit of parking areas at railway stations is being carried out jointly by the railways’ commercial and electrical departments to enhance safety and prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Railway authorities have urged all vehicle owners using parking facilities within railway station premises to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and to strictly adhere to safety norms, stressing that negligence could lead to serious hazards.
