An unidentified pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident on National Highway 44 near the Medchal checkpost on Thursday (January 1, 2025) afternoon.
The accident was reported around 12.15 p.m. near a petrol pump on the road, when a speeding car hit a man aged about 50 years as he was crossing the road. The driver fled the scene without stopping.
The victim sustained severe injuries on his head and died on the spot. Medchal police said that preliminary probe revealed that the deceased was earning his livelihood by collecting waste materials in the area.
A case has been registered, and efforts are on to identify both the victim and the vehicle involved.
