West Whiteland Township police say they have identified a suspect accused of taking photos of girls inside a dressing room at the Plato’s Closet store in the Whiteland Towne Center.
The store in Exton, Pa., reported the alleged crime on Tuesday, prompting police to release a bulletin with the man’s photo.
Investigators say tips from the public helped lead to the suspect’s identification. No name has been released as the investigation continues.
Police do not expect an arrest until next week.
“It’s very disturbing. You have this everywhere anymore. It’s a shame. It’s a different generation, there’s a lot of things changing, and the safety of the kids is what is important,” said Barbara Vitabile of Phoenixville, who visited the store Thursday with her grandchildren and kept them close by.
Plato’s Closet is a franchised retailer where owners buy and sell used clothing.
The store is popular with teens looking for name brands at discounted prices.
“You sell your clothes there, and then people buy it at a good price. A lot of people go in there,” said Allison Wilkins of Brookhaven.
The store’s franchise owner declined to comment on camera but appeared visibly upset about the incident. Customers expressed support for the store.
“It’s probably an isolated incident. It happens everywhere. You just got to be aware of your surroundings everywhere now,” one customer said.
