Six convicted in ganja case

The Anantapur I ADJ Court on Thursday (February 05, 2026) sentenced six persons to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each of the accused in ganja smuggling case. The convicted are natives of Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, and West Godavari districts.

According to the police, on June 17, 2021, the Anantapur rural police carried out vehicle checking near the MYR Function hall in the city based on credible information about transportation and sale of ganja. During checking, a car bearing registration number AP39 BG 9454 was stopped and 29.100 kg of ganja was seized.

After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Anantapur I ADJ Court. After examining the witnesses and evidence, I Additional District and Sessions Judge, Anantapur, C. Satyavani, on Thursday pronounced the judgement.

The convicted persons were identified as Kunchapu Vadde Pawan Kumar, B. Dhanaraj, and Gajula Akhil of Anantapur Town; Palle Venkata Raviteja of West Godavari District, Gajula Nagaraju of Kalyandurgam Town, and Poola Sunil Kumar of Kondamanu Yanipalem in Kadiri Mandal of Sri Sathya Sai District.
