Minister for Registration and Museums Kadannappally Ramachandran on Sunday (December 28) said fostering artistic and cultural awareness among students was essential to prevent them from drifting towards dangers such as substance abuse.

He was inaugurating ‘Sargotsavam 2025’, the State-level arts festival of students from model residential schools under the Scheduled Tribes Development department, at the Collectorate ground here. He said that cultural festivals like Sargotsavam, which blend creativity and imagination, could play a key role in involving youth in nation-building.

The Minister said the State government followed a policy of inclusion, ensuring equality for communities that had once faced neglect and oppression. Kerala, he said, had created conditions for people to live with dignity and equality across sectors.

Presiding over the function, K.V. Sumesh, MLA, said Sargotsavam was an important platform that enabled students to showcase their creative talents alongside academic pursuits. M. Vijin, MLA, was the chief guest. Kannur Corporation councillor Leesha Deepak and Scheduled Tribes Development department Director Mithun Premraja were present.

Earlier, a colourful procession announcing the festival was taken out in the town. The event will conclude on December 30.
