New buildings to house the central medical godown and additional accommodation facilities for the attendants of patients were formally inaugurated on the TTD’s Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) campus here on Wednesday.
TTD Board Chairman B.R. Naidu, who declared the facilities open, explained that the three-storeyed godown, measuring 37,000 sq. ft., was built with ₹10.65 crore to house medical/general stores, cold storage units, offices and a conference hall, meant to efficiently manage the medical supplies.
Similarly, the patient attendants’ rest house got a second and third floor with ₹4.40 crore to accommodate 300 attendants. People accompanying patients coming for treatment from far-off places were provided food and accommodation here.
The central laboratory system is under construction. Once completed, all lab facilities will come under one roof.
SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor R.V. Kumar said plans were afoot to complete the staff quarters, a central kitchen, 350 additional beds, five operation theatres, five ICUs and an advanced cancer care building, with the support of the TTD.
TTD Board members Sadasiva Rao, Santha Ram and Naresh Kumar, Joint Executive Officer V. Veerabrahmam, BIRRD Director G. Jagadish, and TTD’s Chief Engineer T.V. Satyanarayana accompanied the Chairman.
