Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, on Tuesday (January 6, 2026), flagged off a fleet of 61 new buses equipped with modern facilities for the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) at Island Grounds in Chennai.
The buses, equipped with seater and sleeper facilities, were procured at a cost of ₹37.98 crore. Last month, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had flagged off a fleet of 20 ultra-modern air-conditioned multi-axle buses procured at a cost of ₹34.30 crore for the SETC.
The new buses will join the fleet of services being operated by the SETC from Chennai to various parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as to major cities in neighbouring States such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
State Minister for Transport S.S. Sivasankar, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu, Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya and senior government officials were among those present.
