Ten sentenced to imprisonment in attempt-to-murder case

An additional assistant sessions court on Wednesday sentenced 10 BJP workers to imprisonment in a 2007 attempt-to-murder case in which former municipal councillor and CPI(M) activist Champadan Rajesh alias Mani of was targeted.

Additional assistant sessions court judge M. Sruthi pronounced the verdict against 11 accused in the case. The court awarded a cumulative sentence of 36.6 years imprisonment but ruled that each convict should undergo a maximum of 10 years imprisonment. Each accused was also slapped with a fine of ₹1.08 lakh. Half of the total fine amount will be paid to Rajesh and the other half to his family.

One of the accused, Manoj of Madappeedika, had died.
