Telangana Government has set in motion the process for construction of Young India Integrated Residential Schools according administrative sanction for 79 of the 105 schools proposed in different constituencies across the State.

Works of 12 schools started

Target: 70 schools by June 2027

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said it was targeted to complete works on 70 schools by June next year and works on nine more schools would be completed by June 2028. A total of ₹1,250 crore was allocated for the YIIRS this fiscal of which ₹500 crore would be from the State budget, ₹300 crore from Nabard and another ₹450 crore would be mobilised through the DMFT.

₹21,000 crore is project cost for 105 schools

The overall project cost for the 105 schools is ₹21,000 crore and the Government planned to utilise ₹12,800 crore from the State budget and associated institutions, ₹4,900 crore from the Asian Development Bank and the balance ₹3,300 crore from the Nabard. Replying to queries on behalf of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, he said the integrated residential schools were planned with all facilities spread over a sprawling 25 acres each.

He recalled that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government had started 642 residential schools with student strength of over five lakh taking the total number of residential schools to 1,023.

Of these, 616 schools were functioning from rented buildings. “The condition of these schools is such that a single room is being used as dormitory, classroom and dining room,” he lamented. The Congress Government had therefore conceived the integrated schools for providing quality education with all amenities.

To a query, he said the Government would examine the proposal for making five to six years service in rural and remote areas compulsory for the staff so that the institutions in rural and remote areas functioned efficiently.
