Storms battered large portions of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, December 9, bringing “flash floods, hail, and dust-raising downdraft winds,” according to local news reports. Footage from Musab Nader Photography shows heavy rain and thunderstorms slamming the city of Jeddah, on the central western coast of the country. According to the Saudi Gazette, citing the National Center for Meteorology, moderate to heavy rainfall was expected to impact several governorates of the Makkah region, including Jeddah, between Monday and Wednesday. Monday’s rainfall forced the Culture Square and the Red Sea Souk, which hosts screenings, activities, and programs as part of the Red Sea International Film Festival, to suspend events for the remainder of the day.
