Prashant Veer, the IPL’s costliest uncapped buy ahead of the 2026 season, received an injury scare when he clutched his shoulder and lay motionless for a brief while on the outfield in Lucknow, during Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy fixture against Jharkhand.

The injury occurred just before lunch, in the 30th over, when Veer dived to his right at mid-off to stop a firm hit by Jharkhand’s Shikhar Mohan. While he managed to stop the ball, Veer landed awkwardly on his right shoulder.

While he was administered pain-relief spray immediately, Veer was pulled out of the field and taken to hospital for scans. When he returned, his arm was in a sling. He’s unlikely to play any further part in the match.

The timing of his injury will leave Chennai Super Kings anxious, as the IPL is set to start in less than two months. As things stand, Veer is understood to have suffered a grade-2 tear that could keep him out of action for at least three weeks.

Jharkhand, having been asked to bat, reached 279 for 1 by stumps on day one. Opener Sharandeep Singh scored his second first-class century, remaining unbeaten on 128, with strong support from Mohan (78) and Aryaman Sen (64*).

This is a very important match for both teams as they look to stay alive in the knockout race.
