Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) that artificial intelligence should be incorporated into school curricula, and that India should be striving to reach the top of the field. Mr. Radhakrishnan was speaking at the ‘National Conclave on AI Evolution’ at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. He launched a report on introducing AI into school curricula at the event.

“I was told that today in artificial intelligence we occupy the third rank in the world,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said. “That is a very great achievement. But can we be satisfied with the third rank? I think you will all agree with me that we are not and we have to move towards the first rank.”

Mr. Radhakrishnan struck an upbeat note on developments in AI, saying that a downbeat assessment of AI’s likely impact on employment was not the right way to look at the technology. [“We should not be pessimistic about modern scientific developments,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said. “Everything on earth will have positive and negative aspects. It is the human being that we have to focus on.”]

Mr. Radhakrishnan spoke of the India AI Mission, as part of which 38,000 graphics processing units have been provided at nominal rates to researchers and scientists to build AI models. This mission and other steps taken by the government positioned India to be a responsible AI leader, Mr. Radhakrishnan said. “I want to stress the word responsible,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said. “We are the most responsible human beings in the entire world; that is my strong belief.”
