Aimed at curbing vehicular pollution and accelerating EV adoption, the draft builds on the 2020 policy and will come into effect upon notification
The Delhi government on Saturday unveiled a new draft Electric Vehicle Policy 2026–2030, which proposes a 100 per cent exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric cars priced up to ₹Rs 30 lakh, applicable till March 31, 2030. Vehicles above this threshold will not be eligible for any such benefits, while strong hybrid models may receive a 50 per cent exemption, according to the draft uploaded by the transport department.
The policy also outlines a phased transition to cleaner mobility, stating that only electric three-wheelers will be allowed for new registrations starting January 1, 2027. Aimed at curbing vehicular pollution and accelerating EV adoption, the draft builds on the 2020 policy and will come into effect upon notification. The government has invited public feedback on the proposal over the next 30 days.
