A 26-year-old woman was burnt to death by her husband in Nallakunta on Wednesday (December 24, 2025), allegedly after a domestic dispute. The incident taking place in front of their children, police said. The accused was identified as 31-year-old Venkatesh, while the deceased was 26-year-old Triveni.
The Nallakunta Police Inspector, K. Maruthi Prasad, said the accused was arrested within 24 hours from Ameenpur while he was attempting to leave the city.
According to the officer, the couple were natives of Huzurnagar and had married about eight years ago after being in a relationship for sometime. They later moved to Hyderabad, where both were working as daily wage labourers.
“The couple had frequent quarrels, with Venkatesh allegedly suspecting his wife’s fidelity and even questioning the paternity of the daughter,” said the officer.
Earlier this year, the couple had separated after Venkatesh allegedly asked Triveni to quit her job. However, they reconciled in October and resumed living together in Nallakunta. On December 24 morning, Venkatesh consumed alcohol, purchased petrol from a nearby outlet and brought it home.
“Venkatesh woke up their son, gave him food and asked him to go outside, in a bid to save him from the attack. He allegedly intended to kill the daughter as well. He then poured petrol on Triveni and set her on fire,” explained the officer, adding that Triveni managed to save the girl.
Neighbours rushed in after hearing screams and attempted to rescue the victims. Triveni suffered severe burn injuries and succumbed, while the daughter sustained minor burns and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered by the Nallakunta police and further investigation is under way. Police said the accused was produced before a court after his arrest and remanded to judicial custody.
