Motherwell piled the pressure back on the Celtic manager, Wilfried Nancy, as goals from Ibrahim Said and Elliot Watt completed a 2-0 win at Fir Park.

The visitors’ hopes of hauling level with the Premiership leaders, Hearts, were hit when Said headed home his first Motherwell goal before Watt capitalised on a mistake from Kasper Schmeichel to seal victory. Motherwell’s win was their first against Celtic for 10 years and consigns Nancy to his fifth defeat in his first four weeks in charge.

Nancy insists he is confident he can turn around his Celtic tenure. He said: “I’m confident with where we want to go. This was a tough game. But I think that we’re going to get better.”

Rangers moved within six points of Hearts as goals from Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez gave Danny Rohl’s men a 2-1 win over St Mirren at Ibrox. Jack Butland saved a penalty from Marcus Fraser, the visitors’ captain, in the 75th minute before Mikael Mandron pulled a goal back late on.

Dundee United cruised back into the top six with a 3-1 win at the bottom club, Livingston. Zac Sapsford gave the visitors a first-half lead before a frantic final four minutes featured a Ryan McGowan own goal and a third from Amar Fatah take United clear – and there was still time for Connor McLennan’s stoppage-time consolation.

Thibault Klidje and Junior Hoilett struck in the second half as Hibs backed up their Edinburgh derby triumph with a 2-0 home win over listless Aberdeen.

Dundee fought back from behind to claim a precious 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Dens Park. Greg Kiltie fired Killie into an early lead, but goals from Ashley Hay and Charlie Reilly proved enough for the hosts to move up to ninth.
